Timeline Exhibition

I also put up an image for the Timeline exhibition in the Link Gallery and also invigilated for a day. The image I put up was from ten years ago when I went to Pakistan and was celebrating Eid-al-Adha which commemorates the willingness that Abraham would sacrifice his son Ishmael and animals are sacrificed. I put up a photo of a camel being sacrificed with its blood draining from its neck whilst surrounded by people. It has shock value to it was an amazing thing to see.

Anish Kapoor: Flashback

Flashback by Anish Kapoor at Manchester Art Gallery and was in awe of some of the work such as Void which was like peering into oblivion. Some of the pieces made me stare into them for a long amount of time and create an atmosphere which I haven’t experienced before. His use of coloured pigment is also interesting as it’s layered and looks very pure, and when put on top of sculptures is sensuous.

Oscar Muñoz Biografías

MUÑOZ’ WORK EXPLORES UNIVERSAL THEMES OF MEMORY AND HUMAN LOSS WITHIN THE CHALLENGING SOCIO-POLITICAL SITUATION IN HIS NATIVE COLOMBIA, AND HIS EVOCATIVE PIECES TRACE THE IMPACT OF YEARS OF CONFLICT ON HIS FELLOW COLOMBIANS.

HIS WORK IS INTRIGUING DUE TO THE FACES HE DRAWS APPEARING THEN DISAPPEARING AND WONDERING HOW HES'D DONE THIS. HE DRAWS THE PORTRAITS USING WATER AND AS ONE NEARS COMPLETION, THE EARLIER IMAGES EVAPORATE, AND HE STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN

My New Furniture

I found these chairs and framed art work in a shop in Leeds which sold a range of stuff. I like the chairs because they're plastered with comic strips, cartoons, 'Dennis the Menace'. I like the childhood take on furniture, something that's visible all the time but been refurbished in a sense because of an interest and nostalgia. For my personal project I'm going to experiment with furniture, with scale and pieces that make iconic furniture.

FROM BACK HOME / Anders Petersen and JH Engstrom

I went to this exhibition at the National Media Museum in Bradford, and found their take on photography and the way they display it more appealing than the way photography is generally exhibited. In 2001, Petersen and Engström began a seven-year collaboration to photograph the Värmland, the central western area of Sweden where both men spent their formative years. Travelling into the heart of their subject, their potent and captivating photographs became an intense voyage of discovery into both the place and people that shaped them, and their associations with one another. The body of work was published in an award winning book but no exhibited. The images range from affectionate, brutal and sometimes funny, and shows their relationship and how they experienced the same emotions. I find the way the multiple photographs blown up into a large frame intriguing as your eye wanders around them all and each photo has a different emotion.

When a chore leads to inspiration

Cleaning my bedroom lead to some inspiration, messiness leads to ideas. I like the way objects can get thrown together unconsciously and looking at the way the ripped piece of an envelope and the insulating foam squirter work well together, with a bold silhouette and shape on top of a patterned background. I could progress on this.

Mary Gregg exhibition / Link Gallery

Exhibiting my work for Liz from Platt Hall and to showcase it in the Link gallery was exciting but also interesting to see how I would display it. I feel like it works well and was happy with the big wall that I got for my space. The clamps work well on the plinths and are effective from different angles. Liz was complementary on my work and the photographic display of the envelopes which she found interesting so I was happy with that !
